아래는 네덜란드의 NL Times의 2월 6일자 기사입니다

네덜란드 보육 산업 협회(he Dutch Childcare Industry Association)는 보육센터 등에 놀이용 모래 사용을 금지하라고 밝혔습니다. 석면 존재 가능성 때문입니다.

호주에서는 지역 소비자 제품 안전 협회(the local consumer product safety authority) 에서 어린이 놀이용 모래에서 석면을 발견되면서 70개 넘는 공립 학교가 문을 닫았습니다. 호주 당국은 문제된 어린이 놀이용 모래 제품을 리콜하였고 모두 중국에서 제조되었다고 합니다.

네덜란드에서는 인기 있는 놀이용 모래 12종에 대해 조사를 실시하였고 6개에서 석면이 발견되었습니다. 석면은 주로 산사(흩어지는 모래, loose sand)에서 발견되는데 조사를 한 연구소에서는 키네틱 새드와 매직 샌드와 같이 브랜드와 유사 제품에서도 발암물질이 포함될 수 있음을 배제(rule out)하지 않았습니다.
