2012년 2월 13일 이탈리아 튜린법원에서는 "거대한 석면 재판""이라고 알려진 사건에 대한 평결이 예정되어 있습니다. 이탈리아 검사는 피고인, 스위스&벨기에 Eternit 그룹의 이사진들인 Stephan Schmidheiny 와 Baron Louis de Cartier de Marchienne에게 20년의 징역형 구형중입니다. 스위스&벨기에 Eternit 그룹은 Casale Monferrato와 기타 다른 이탈리아 지역에서 석면시멘트 제조공장을 운영하였습니다.
이렇게 중요한 사건이 법적으로 진행되고 있고 영어로 제작된 Eertnit 그룹에 대한 자료가 거의 없는 것을 고려하여 "Eternit and The Great Asbestos Trial"이라는 제목의 책이 지역사회연합에 의해 출판되었습니다. 그 지역사회연합은 현재 3개 대륙에서 활동하는 Eternit사를 면밀히 주시하고 있습니다. 7개국에서의 Eternit 운영에 대한 18개의 보고서는 모두 동일한 내용을 담고 있는데 Eternit 그룹이 근로자와 가족, 소비자와 지역사회에 지불해야하는 비용이 있음에도 불구하고 이익달성을 우선시 한다는 것입니다.

Dear All-
On February 13, 2012, a Turin Court will announce the verdict in what has become known as THE GREAT ASBESTOS TRIAL. The Italian prosecutor is asking for 20-year jail sentences for defendants Stephan Schmidheiny and Baron Louis de Cartier de Marchienne, executives of the Swiss and Belgian Eternit Groups which at various times were responsible for operations at Eternit asbestos-cement factories in Casale Monferrato and other Italian towns.
In recognition of the international importance of these legal proceedings and the almost total lack of information about Eternit in English, a book entitled Eternit and The Great Asbestos Trial is being published by a consortium of civil society groups which examines this case against the backdrop of Eternit activities on three continents. The eighteen papers on Eternit operations in seven countries reveal a consistency of approach and behaviour; a corporate modus operandi which prioritized profits regardless of the cost paid by workers, family members, consumers and communities.
Eternit and The Great Asbestos Trial will be available online on February 13, 2012 on the IBAS website: http://www.ibasecretariat.org (a link on the website will lead to the book's Table of Contents from which it may be downloaded as individual chapters or in its entirety).
