캐나다 유력 신문인 The Globe and Mail의 캐나다 석면 수출에 대한 비판 기사입니다.

생명에 치명적인 유해물질인 석면을 고의적으로 수출하는 행위가 무방비 상태의 가난한 나라 국민들을 죽음에 이르게 하고 인간애에 대한 범죄라고 비판하고 있습니다.

석면의 유해성에 대해서는 이미 더 이상의 언급이 필요없을 정도로 잘 알고 있을 뿐만 아니라 캐나다와 세계 52개국에서 사용이 금지되었다는 사실만으로도 증거가 충분한데도 캐나다 정부는 인도, 인도네시아, 방글라데시 등의 국가로 석면을 계속해서 수출하고 있습니다.
WHO에 의하면 전세계적으로 매년 100,000명보다 많은 수의 사람이 석면의 직업적 노출로 죽어가고 있으며, 세계 5위 이내의 석면수출국으로서 Canada는 그 죽음들의 주요 기여자라고 언급하고 있습니다.
또한 퀘백시민들도 이 문제에 대해 적극적으로 목소리를 내어야 함을 지적하고 있습니다.
